The next cowl is the series is another mindless one. It is perfect for those times when you actually want to binge watch something on TV but still want to knit. Or when you have company for an entire week, like we just did. I needed to have something on the needles, but it had to be easy.

I named it after Christelle Botha, the admin of the Facebook group Ons Hekel. She loves moss stitch, and so do I!

Requirements

  • 3.75 mm circular knitting needles
  • 5 mm knitting needle for cast off
  • 3.50 mm crochet hook
  • 100g sock yarn (I used Colourspun Merino Sock)

As with Solo Skein Jeanette, you don’t need stitch markers. Who cares where the round ends? The idea of this cowl is to have a therapeutic knit, so ditch the stitch markers and just enjoy the knit!

Pattern

With the 3.75 mm knitting needles and the crochet hook, set up 119 stitches with the Crochet Cast-on Method. You need this to have a stretchy cast on, and for the two edges of the cowl to look the same.

Here is a tutorial for that cast-on, just in case you need it.

Once you have 119 stitches set-up, join to knit in the round.

*k1, p1, rep from * until you only have enough yarn left for the cast-off, or until the cowl is the desired length. Because of the uneven number of stitches, you will automatically knit in moss stitch by repeating k1, p1.

Obviously, you have to check now and then that you haven’t made a mistake somewhere and are now knitting in single rib where you knit a knit stitch from the previous row, and purl a purl stitch from the previous row. Make a mental note: if the stitch in the previous row shows a V, purl it, and if it shows a bar, knit it.

I really enjoyed this knit. My daughter Jessica is the lucky recipient. She made me giggle when it became a headband instead of a cowl. Who said knitting was boring?
