About this policy
This policy explains how Hilda Steyn trading as Ilona Slow Life Creations collects and uses your personal information when you visit ilonaslowlifecreations.co.za, buy a pattern, book a workshop or join our newsletter. We handle your information according to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

What we collect
- When you create an account or buy a pattern: your name, email address and order history.
- When you book a workshop or event: the name and contact details of each ticket holder, and any dietary needs you choose to tell us about.
- When you join our newsletter: your name and email address.
- When you contact us: whatever you include in your message.
- When you browse our site: your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you visit, collected through cookies.
We don’t collect or store your card details. PayFast processes all payments on its own secure platform.
Why we use it
We use your information to process your orders and deliver your patterns, to manage workshop bookings and let you know about changes to an event, to answer your questions, to keep the financial records the law requires, to send our newsletter if you’ve signed up for it, and to understand how visitors use our site so we can improve it.
Newsletter and marketing emails
We only send newsletters to people who sign up for them. If you’ve bought from us, we may occasionally email you about similar patterns or workshops. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
Photos at workshops
We ask before taking photos at a workshop, and anyone who prefers not to appear is kept out of them. If you appear in a photo we’ve published and want it removed, email us and we’ll take it down.
Who we share it with
We never sell your information. We share it only with the service providers who help us run the business, and only what they need to do their job:
- PayFast processes payments.
- Xneelo hosts our website.
- Beacons sends our newsletter.
- Any venue receives attendee names for events held at their venue.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Information stored outside South Africa
Some of these providers store information on servers outside South Africa. We use only providers bound by data protection laws or agreements that protect your information to a standard comparable to POPIA.
How long we keep it
We keep order and payment records for five years, as South African tax law requires. We keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe, and account details until you ask us to close your account. After that, we delete or anonymise your information.
How we protect it
Our site uses an encrypted (SSL) connection, and access to your information is limited to Hilda Steyn and the service providers named above. If your information is ever compromised, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
Your rights
You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to us using it for marketing. Email us and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za.
Children
Our online store is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If a child attends a workshop, a parent or guardian must make the booking. If you believe your child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Cookies
Cookies keep you logged in, remember your cart and measure site visits. You can refuse cookies in your browser settings, but you won’t be able to log in or check out without them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time and will post the new version here with its effective date.
