Terms & Conditions

Effective date: 2026-01-01

About these terms

These terms apply when you buy from ilonaslowlifecreations.co.za. Ilona Slow Life Creations is the trading name of Hilda Steyn. We sell two things: digital patterns delivered as PDF downloads, and tickets to workshops and events. We don’t sell or ship physical products. Yarn kits for some of our designs are sold by our partners, such as Colourspun, under their own terms.

By placing an order, you agree to these terms. Nothing in them takes away any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act or the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.

Your account

You need an account to buy from us. Please give accurate details and keep your password private. If you think someone else has used your account, tell us straight away. We aren’t responsible for losses caused by someone using your login details, unless we caused the breach.

Prices and payment

All prices are in South African Rand. The price shown at checkout is the full price you pay. We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged.

We accept payment through PayFast only. Your card details are handled by PayFast; we never see or store them.

If a price on our site is wrong, we’ll contact you before your order is processed. You can then pay the correct price or cancel for a full refund.

Orders

After you order, you’ll receive an email confirming we’ve received it. Your order is accepted once payment clears and your pattern is available in My Account or your ticket is issued. We may decline an order, for example if we suspect fraud or an event is full, and if we do, we refund you in full.

Digital patterns

What you receive. A PDF file, available to download under My Account as soon as your payment clears. Your download links stay available for as long as your account is active. Please save a copy to your own device.

Check before you buy. Each product page shows the craft (knit or crochet), language, skill level, sizes and materials. Please make sure the pattern is the one you want.

Corrections. If we find an error in a pattern, we correct the file and the updated version becomes available in My Account.

Refunds. Patterns are delivered immediately and can’t be returned, so we don’t give refunds once a pattern is available to you. At checkout you agree that delivery starts straight away, which means the seven-day cooling-off period under ECTA doesn’t apply. We will always put it right if a file is faulty or won’t open, or if you were charged more than once. Email us and we’ll fix it or refund you.

Your pattern licence. Buying a pattern gives you a personal licence to use it. You may print it and keep copies on your own devices. You may not share, copy, sell, upload, translate or publish the pattern, in whole or in part, or present it as your own.

Workshop and event tickets

What a ticket covers. One person’s place at the workshop or event on the date and at the venue shown on the event page. The event page lists what’s included and anything you need to bring.

If you can’t attend. You may transfer your ticket to someone else at no charge. Email us their name before the event. If you’d rather cancel:

  • More than 14 days before the event, you get a full refund.
  • Between 7 and 14 days before, you get a 50% refund.
  • Less than 7 days before, we don’t refund, but you can still transfer your ticket.
  • Refunds will be in the form of a coupon you can use for future purchases.

If you can’t attend because of the death or hospitalisation of the ticket holder, we refund you in full with no penalty.

If we cancel or postpone. You choose between a full refund and keeping your place for the new date. We can’t cover travel or accommodation you booked, so we suggest booking options you can change.

Tickets bought elsewhere. If you bought your ticket through a festival or another organiser, their terms apply to that booking.

Photos. We ask before taking photos at a workshop, and anyone who prefers not to appear is kept out of them.

Please read this carefully: attending at your own risk. You attend workshops and events at your own risk and are responsible for your own belongings. We are not liable for loss, damage or injury at an event unless it is caused by our gross negligence or the law does not allow us to exclude that liability. Please follow the rules of the venue.

Intellectual property

All patterns, text, photos, charts, logos and other content on this site belong to Hilda Steyn trading as Ilona Slow Life Creations and are protected by copyright and trademark law. You may not use them without our written permission, except as your pattern licence allows.

If you break the pattern licence, for example by sharing or selling a pattern, you are responsible for the loss this causes us.

Your privacy

We collect only the information we need to process your orders and bookings, and we handle it according to the Protection of Personal Information Act. We never sell your information. You’ll only receive our newsletter if you sign up for it. Our privacy policy explains this in full.

Limits on our liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profits or data, arising from your use of our site or products. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the product or ticket concerned. Nothing in this section limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time and will post the new version here with its effective date. The terms in place when you placed your order apply to that order.

Complaints and disputes

Please contact us first; we reply within 5 working days. If we can’t resolve it together, you may approach the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud or the National Consumer Commission. These terms are governed by South African law, and any dispute will be heard by a South African court with jurisdiction.
