Since I was a little girl, I dreamed of a cloak.

Not simply something to wear, but something to wrap around myself like a story — a cloak with a deep hood, rich colour, and quiet magic stitched into every fold. It was a dream that stayed with me through the years, waiting patiently until my heart was ready for this project.
In September, I began bringing that dream to life. What I thought might be a simple design slowly unfolded into something far deeper. Stitch by stitch, row by row, The Storyteller’s Cloak took shape over many months, finally coming to completion at the beginning of February. It was not a quick project. It was a journey — one that required patience, reflection, and trust in the creative process.
Inspired by the Land
The colours and spirit of the cloak were born from the wildflowers of the Western Cape in South Africa.
This landscape has a quiet resilience. After fire, life returns. After hardship, beauty rises again. The fynbos veld, with its delicate blooms and surprising strength, became both palette and metaphor. I wanted the cloak to carry that same message — that renewal is always possible, and that growth often follows seasons of challenge.

Crochet as Therapy
From the beginning, I designed this cloak to be more than a garment. I wanted it to be a therapeutic experience to create.
Crochet offers a rhythm that calms the mind and steadies the heart. The repetition of stitches invites stillness. The gradual progress teaches patience. With each section completed, there is a quiet sense of accomplishment — a reminder that small, consistent steps can create something extraordinary.
Working on this cloak through the changing seasons became a form of reflection for me. It was a space to breathe, to process, and to create beauty slowly and intentionally.

A Dream Realised
What once lived only in imagination now exists in yarn, colour, and texture. The Storyteller’s Cloak is the fulfilment of a childhood dream — but it is also an invitation.
An invitation to slow down.
To create with intention.
To wrap yourself in something made with care.
To honour the stories we carry and the journeys that shape us.
Soon, I will be inviting you to walk this path with me through a crochet-along. Together, we will stitch not only a cloak, but an experience — one that celebrates creativity, resilience, and the quiet magic of making.
The story has begun. And I cannot wait to see how it unfolds in your hands.

Hello from the UK!
Your cloak looks *amazing* and I thought I’d investigate the beautiful yarn you used… I tried the code (how you wrote it, then all caps and then all lower case) but the ColourSpun site says it doesn’t exist – do they need a little nudge perhaps?
All the best!
Hi Janie
The code is for discount on the pattern from Ravelry. There is no discount code for the kit. xx
Such a beautiful cloak! I hope to be able to make this sometime in the future, just can’t do it at this time! The yarn is gorgeous. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful talent with all of us, Hilda!
